![]() ![]() This project will continue to quality-control the resulting worldwide data prior to releasing. In future releases, more boundaries will have their definitions come directly from overpass searches for timezone key/value pairs in OpenStreetMap. Given this stability, improvement in quality, and documentation, it is the intent of this project to rely more heavily on the timezone data from OpenStreetMap. Also, recently the OpenStreetMap wiki page Key:timezone was updated to include great instructions on how to map timezone boundaries. Since then, the timezone relations in OpenStreetMap have remained and improved in quality. Shortly after this project began in the year 2017, there was controversy on the OpenStreetMap mailing list about whether timezone relations should exist in OpenStreetMap. Some of these relations are pulled in verbatim by this project. A lot of the timezone boundaries exist by piggy-backing on top of existing administrative boundary relations, however some timezone boundaries have their own dedicated relations. Within OpenStreetMap there exist a lot of data about timezone boundaries. If there are no new timezones created or deleted in a timezone database release, then this project will only create a release if there have been changes performed to the boundary definitions of an existing zone within this project. To maintain consistency with the timezone database, this project will only create a new release after the timezone database creates a new release. In numerous edge cases arbitrary boundaries get created in various zones which are noted in the timezones.json file. Various boundaries are assembled together to produce each zone with various geographic operations. The underlying data is downloaded from OpenStreetMap via the overpass turbo API. This project also will attempt to provide the most accurate possible boundaries of timezones according to community input. This project aims to stay up-to-date with all of the currently valid timezones that are defined in the timezone database. The tzid corresponds to the timezone name as defined in the timezone database (for example: America/Los_Angeles or Asia/Shanghai). Each shape or geojson object has a single attribute or property respectively called tzid. As of release 2018d shapefiles are available with or without oceans. The shapefiles are available for download in this project's releases. More information about the proposed changes and steps to provide feedback can be found on Metra's 2024 Fare Plan website.The goal of this project is to produce a shapefile with the boundaries of the world's timezones using OpenStreetMap data. There would be no changes to the $30 Regional Connect Pass for CTA and Pace fares for monthly pass buyers, and Metra will continue to sell the $7 Saturday, Sunday or Holiday Day Pass as well as the $10 Weekend Pass on the Ventra app only. ![]() Reduced fares of about 50% for seniors, K-12 students and active duty military would be available for one way tickets, day passes, day pass bundles and monthly passes. The $6 and $10 day passes and the $100 "Super Saver" monthly pass, all introduced during as pandemic promotions, would be discontinued. The monthly pass would be priced at 20 times the cost of a one-way ticket: $75 for Zone 2, $110 for Zone 3 and $135 for Zone 4. ![]() The 10-ride ticket would be replaced by a bundle of five day passes, which would only be available on the Ventra app. All one-way tickets that don't include downtown as a starting or ending point would be $3.75 regardless of the distance.Ī day pass would cost twice as much as a one way ticket and be valid for unlimited rides in one day in the zones selected. One-way tickets to Zone 1 would cost anywhere from $3.75 to $6.75 depending on your zone. Downtown stations would be in Zone 1, and outlying stations would be in Zones 2 through 4 based on their proximity to downtown, service patterns and ridership characteristics on each line. In the new proposal, there are only four fare zones. The commuter train currently has a 10-zone fare system, and prices for some tickets are based on the number of zones traveled. The proposal would create a simplified fare system for Metra riders. CHICAGO (WLS) - Metra is seeking public comment on its proposals to make some major changes to their fares. ![]()
